The Alif Laila Book Bus Society’s Camel Library project now operates in over 30 villages across Mand, Thar, Kohlu, Barkhan, and Gwadar, reaching more than 5000 children. Each camel library—Roshan, Nayab, Amal, Sukoon, Khushi, Mashal, Umeed, and Raunaq—creates an interactive, joyful environment where children eagerly read books and participate in learning activities.
This initiative provides employment to local camel herders while also equipping libraries with new books and engaging materials to enhance the children’s learning experiences. A key feature of these libraries is their ability to traverse challenging terrains, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, where camels remain the most effective mode of transport. The libraries carry tech bags containing solar-powered tablets, offering an innovative blend of tradition and technology. Alif Laila Book Bus Society also provides training to librarians and facilitators to engage children in children in reading activities and also improve their reading levels.
With donor support, the project continues expanding into new regions, offering books, technology, and learning spaces for thousands more children. It also sustains local livelihoods and empowers children through education, fostering literacy, creativity, and hope for a brighter future.
